How to Choose an Electricity Provider — When Nobody Helps You Compare

March 12, 20265 min read

The Problem: Too Many Options, No Real Comparison

Since Israel's electricity market opened to competition, there are 7 alternative providers offering various discount plans. Some offer a fixed discount, some offer discounts at certain hours, and some have seasonal variable discounts.

The problem: no provider tells you how much you'd actually save, based on your personal consumption pattern. Each one presents their plan in the most flattering way — but without seeing your data, there's no way to know what's really worth it.

The Solution: Upload Your Data, Get an Answer

I built a tool that does exactly this comparison. The process is simple:

  1. Download your consumption report from the Israel Electric Corporation (a CSV file from your smart meter)
  2. Upload it to the tool
  3. Get a table showing exactly how much you'd pay under each plan, and the savings compared to the standard rate

Full Privacy — Everything Runs in the Browser

An important point: your data never leaves your browser. All parsing and calculations happen locally on your computer. There's no server receiving your consumption report, no database storing it. This was a deliberate decision — electricity consumption data is sensitive information that reveals a lot about your lifestyle.

What the Tool Includes

Beyond the basic comparison, there are three tabs:

Plan Comparison — The main table. See exactly how much each plan costs based on your consumption, sorted cheapest to most expensive.

Consumption Analysis — Charts showing your consumption patterns: by hour, by day, by season. Includes anomaly detection — if you have unusually high consumption on a particular day, the tool flags it.

Provider Selection — Once you know what's cheapest, you can see details about each provider: contract terms, commitment period, and how to switch.

Regular Updates

The plan data updates weekly. An automated scraper checks the rates of all 7 providers and updates the tool, so you always get current prices.

Who Is This For

The tool is for anyone who pays an electricity bill in Israel and wants to know if they should switch providers. Especially for households with high consumption, where the difference between plans can reach hundreds of shekels a year.
